In the interest of full disclosure I want to let everyone know that I had the privilege of working with the author, Janet Neal, in the corporate world about 10-12 years ago. However with that said I believe my review to be honest and as un-biased as I can humanly make it.I originally heard about this book from a post the author made on Facebook and I thought "Hey, she's sharp so this might be a good read!" and I wasn't disappointed. The book is written as a series of short anecdotal stories from the author's life. At first I had a bit of trouble getting into the flow of the stories in this style but after reading a few pages that trouble disappeared and I found myself enjoying some thought provoking and entertaining prose. I started reading the book a few nights ago after a particularly difficult couple of weeks of high stress client and family issues. After 20 minutes or so of reading this book I felt a calmness come over me and laughed out loud a number of times - both at the humor in the book and at the moments I had thinking "Wow! This sounds like me at times!". I ended up reading the whole book in 4 nights and felt it was time well spent because not only did I have fun reading it but I also found many pearls of wisdom that I can add to my arsenal of tools for life. As someone who likes to read lots of non-fiction books this one fit right in to my reading schedule nicely. If you're looking for a book that is witty/fun and though provoking I think this book will fit the bill nicely.

I thoroughly enjoyed reading this book! Janet MacMeekin Neal shares life stories, in such a delightful way, that all of us can relate to. Her writing is excellent and to the point. I highly recommend this book!
The author and I have been lifelong friends. Janet was always sharp and eager to share when we were kids and throughout adult life. Her stories in this book are a great inspiration, fun, and really make you think about your own life...what have I let pass me by? Is there something I should be doing? Janet has blazed a trail that most of us only wish we had the nerve to do.
We can always reach the small goals we set for ourselves, but not all of us get to achieve a life long goal! Great book from a great "superwoman"!
She got me at the title. If ever I need a reminder about who or what is in control, I pick up Soul in Control and open to any story. Janet Neal's uses humor in the most effective of ways--gently but steadily at herself. Which makes it all the more palatable for a reader like me to say " Oh boy, I do that too." And there's the gentle reality check of who is really in control in the ups and downs of a rollercoaster life. Janet sprinkles wisdom from contemporary authors in her stories of everyday events yielding entertainment and some pretty good aha's. A great read!
